Emma Carpenter

I am a multi-faceted, NCAA - Division I athlete on the women’s golf team at the University of Minnesota.

Having received a B.A in Broadcast Journalism and currently getting a Masters of Marketing at the U, I am also honing my skills as a podcaster for Five Clubs Golf and as a member of the Gopher Digital Production team.

I am the 2023 recipient of the Lisa Byington Award - most outstanding student female broadcaster in the Big Ten!

A classically-trained vocalist, I have performed the National Anthem for numerous Gopher sporting events.

I love meeting new people & exploring new adventures.

About Me

I was born in the rural midwestern town of DeKalb, Illinois. I am proud of the values instilled in me - growing up in community that champions hard work, honesty, and reinforces the value of your reputation.

In 2023/24, I will be using my “Covid” (5th) year to get a Masters in Marketing in the Carlson School of Management and will continue to play golf for the U. My golf team is my extended family and I am super proud to be a Golden Gopher. I have received the All-Big10 Academic Award, the Big 10 Distinguished Scholar Award and am an All-American Scholar. In 2020, I received the Big10 Sportsmanship award. My undergraduate degree was in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Sports Management.

Since studying at the Hubbard School of Journalism, I have been published in the Minnesota Daily and received a Midwest Student Emmy Award. Because of my drive and motivation to pursue other broadcast opportunities outside of HSJMC, I have also done play-by-play/color commentary & sideline reporting for Big Ten Plus and ESPN+, while also hosting a biweekly golf podcast alongside former Golf Channel’s Gary Williams & ESPN’s Jay Bilas.

Lastly, this year I was very honored to have been selected as the winner of the 2023 Lisa Byington Award. This award is presented annually to the most outstanding female broadcaster in the Big10 StudentU program.
